Our Story
Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, El Bethel Transition Home strives to break generational cycles of abuse and addiction by offering a safe and stable place to call home—a home rooted in the love of Jesus Christ.
Executive Director Usha Sklena was inspired to open El Bethel after working as a counselor in a faith-based recovery program for women court-ordered to undergo addiction treatment. She noticed the risk for relapse in women returning to broken homes and unhealthy lifestyles, and was called to action by scripture (Psalm 1:1-3).
El Bethel, or God of the house of God (Genesis 28:16-19), is the name by which God revealed himself to Jacob. True to its name, El Bethel Transition Home helps women heal and grow by developing a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Psalm 1:1-3 ESV
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
